    What is it?

Wrestling season is just around the corner... Appy will be having a wrestling team this season.. that is awsome. Wrestling is down over the past few years, it seems like no one is interesting in wrestling.. it is by far the toughest sport beside Cross Country... Why aren't students wrestling these days?

    Re: What is it?

I think it is wonderful that Appy will be fielding a squad this year. It has always been a shame that only 3 out of 8 LPD schools field a program. IMO wrestling is the toughest sport of them all, requires more work, discipline than the more "famed" sports. Kids aren't wrestling nowadays because there is a lack of work ethic and toughness IMO. Wrestling is the only sport where you aren't allowed the luxury of being able to make excuses or pass blame. When you are on the mat one on one, and you are pinned, it's you, not your teammate. Alot of kids are simply afraid of being embarrassed by having a crowd watching them lose.

I agree with all of what you have said.... What i think would help the process is: Football coaches encouraging the athletes to wrestle. With the new regulations on weight and hydration the kid will not get weaker but if anything stronger and become a better football player with better tackling skills. I know a lot of coaches discourage this and tell the kids if that they need to be in the weightroom instead.

    Re: What is it?

B.I. encourages his kids to wrestle because of the reasons you mentioned. Strength and conditioning improve significantly, and with the new rules as far as weight, hydration are concerned, there's no drawback to wrestling.

    Re: What is it?

coach mullins from coeburn encourages everyone of the football players to do something while not playing football in the off season so they can stay in good shape

I wrestled last year and it was by far the best time of my life, most kids are not brought up to wrestle they are brought up to play basketball during the winter

    Re: What is it?

people would rather sit at home surfing myspace and playing PS2, instead of doing something with their lives...

I agree.. Kids are lazy these days and lack motivation. Needless to say parents should realize this and make them get off of their rearend and do a sport or 2. If not sports make them do yeard work or something and limit the time that they play the ps2 or xbox.
